ipod advert, South Africa

I drew this illustration for TBWA, South Africa a few months back. I was chosen amongst 2 other SA illustrators to produce an image which reflects a certain music genre in connection with the new iPod. My style is quiet rough and textured so my theme was Rock & Metal. The other two illustrators produced artwork for Hip Hop and Pop. Our illustrations resulted in online discussions amongst iPod fans and I followed discussions on various forums.Â Most comments were positive and welcomed the new more “experimental” approach to the well known black silhouette style…. anyway, the ads were pulled eventually shortly after they were released. Apple HQ didn’t think these ads suit the slick and minimalist image which Apple tries to convey. Ach!, Personally I think that not everyone who owns an iPod is a slick style king who only listens to the trendiest beats. At the end of the day it was great fun to work on this project…
