The Illustrators Club of Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia is currently displaying the 14th Annual Juried Exhibition in Washington DC, at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery 702 Eighth St. NW, right across the street from the National Portrait Gallery. The opening on May 8th was packed with an enthusiastic crowd. Plenty of fun had by all… A lecture by Illustrator/Educator Murray Tinkelman on the history of American Illustration from 1850-1950 was also well attended in the gallery space.
I would like to note that Murray’s lecture paid homage and respect to the European art and Illustrators that set the tone for the fledgling American marketplace. His scholarly approach is broad and delivered in common speech, so even the novice understood the broader points and was able to make the subtle connections.
