last and first

Last and First is a final year exhibition set to overshadow Ireland’s Dublin on the week of the 10th June to the 14th June with the grande launch on the 12th. Situated in a new location, the CHQ development nestled in Dublin’s flourishing docklands, this year unveils a very new look show from the visual communications course in the Dublin Institute of Technology. The large space will exhibit 34 fresh new designers, exposing a veritable goody bag of audiovisual delights. DIT has many graduate shows under its belt, but this year the students have very much taken the reins and explored a new unexplored area of showcasing, incorporating 3d elements in a visual communication output.

Bright white 3d display units will populate the space with a 10ft front projected display screen rolling through the myriad of digital work created by the newly graduated students. Interactive screens with campaigns and websites will also be available for the viewer to wonder at! This year introduces a new thinking in this show, where the students have branded their show and created an overall entity to let loose on the creative community and the public at large.

The threads of the night weave together something unique to the barrage of graduate shows that arrive at the same time in Dublin city every year. A very special guest speaker for the night has been promised and as a special treat an unusual offset to the night is offered in the shape of an afters launch reception in Dublin’s own Tall ship ‘The Jeannie Johnson’ docked across from the CHQ complex. Visuals will be projected onto the net sails and a selection of imagery on the ship will be shown to accompany the audio tunings of a Dj and musicians, this really could set the standard for exhibitions from now on.

The attendee’s on the launch night on thursday will also get a promotional gift that our designers have spent quite a bit of time and thought on. I have seen the time and effort that has been expended on making this event something for the calendar and has united a class of students in really producing a memorable culmination to 4 years spent learning and understanding design.
The online presence to accompany the immense work that the class of 2008 is doing has gone live and it shows work from each student.
