I recently completed a new body of work that focuses on psychological themes which depict children and adults contrasted against or morphed into a backdrop of chaos, destruction or ambiguous imagery which, in one way, relates to my past memories and present self-awareness. Images are collected from many sources: vintage photos/illustrations from children and family magazines and books (1920’s to 1950’s), found photos, various film stills, old family photos and personal photographs as well. I spend weeks and sometimes months combining, arranging and deciphering several images which are an attempt to unravel a specific feeling I have about each piece. Each work is meticulously drawn and then painted with traditional oils. It’s a process of discovery which leads me to create a type of personal symbolism using familiar imagery.
