Somedays Gallery is proud to present their first show for 2008 ”Separate Collective”. The coming together of 3 individual artists (Kalen, Bennett, Hewps) showcasing their unique styles of work through various mediums of stencil, illustration, aerosol and inks.
With an experimental style and uses of many mediums, artist Kalen simplistically creates from his perceptions of the world and reflections of thoughts, so his techniques and influences are ever evolving and changing. Kalens artworks also challenge the viewer to discover the ‘hidden meanings’ in each of his pieces.
Urban geography and the increasingly popular street heavily influence the art works of Bennett, the works generally represent and portray themes such as industrialisation and consumerism. Produced on canvas or board using house paint, acrylic and aerosol, most of Bennett’s stencil art involves layering and textured backgrounds contrasted with clean and bold stencilled images. Bennett cleverly uses his colours sparingly, ”blacks, greys, whites are combined with variations of a single other colour to further extend the contrast between the background and main image.”
Hewps, an Alphabetical Architect, Letter constructor and Graffiti Artist. Only 20 years old and based in Sydney, a street collector of glass, metal, wood, and “whatever I can find”. With a preference to create with spraypaint and acrylic, Hewps will also be exhibiting works on canvas.
”Separate Collective” will be opening on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 from 6-9pm. To also up the vibe, a selection of hip hop, underground and electro music including live acts from Kwits Crew and Etiene will also be performing.
The exhibition will continue until March 11. Somedays Gallery is located at 72B Fitzroy St, Surry Hills. For more information please contact 9331 6637 or kristen at somedays dot net dot au
