New and updated Give a Little
Nov 29

Hi LCS members,

I just made this illustration for an online magazine.
It’s a bit new style as I made the raw drawing by hand with graphite, acryl and gouache and then I worked it with Illustrator (illustrator is the newness here).

The brief was to have an ultra modern take on a very cool party so I took a painting “After Lunch” made in 1879 by Renoir and started from there (I’m a big fan of Impressionism)

Usually I like to draw live models with an expressive (blind contour drawing) technique, but here I used a painting as my model (or actually a book with a picture of the painting). I have done this also with some old comic strips and the results are weird but cool sometimes.

I’d be very happy if you could give your opinion about the illustration and about the approach in general and perhaps some pointers on how I could improve. The results are always pretty surprising because chance plays a big role in my work.

I’d like especially some pointers on how to make large drawings to magazine format. As I don’t own a professional camera I scanned the picture in like 10 parts and it took almost a whole day to put it together.

Friendly greetings,

Jarno
