Giant Robot is proud to host Overgrowth, a group art show featuring Katherine Guillen, Zachary Rossman, and Brian Rush at GR2. For the exhibit, the artists are creating about 20 collaborative works, each 4†by 6†in size. The title of the show refers not only to the natural themes of the mixed-media pieces, but also the collaboration process, as each of the artists allowed his or her own artwork to be consumed by the others’ contributions.
On her own, Guillen will show gouache paintings and prints that explore the tenuous relationship between the urban and natural environments. These works resemble landscapes, but are more narrative and symbolic than picturesque.
Rossman will present a body of delicately crafted gouache and graphite drawings. Using a vernacular indicative of natural history book imagery, his work explores themes of decay, isolation and supernatural occurrences.
Rush is preparing small paintings, medium-sized mixed-media pieces, and sculptures. Incorporating cartoon, scientific, and abstract imagery, his pieces depict whimsy as a divider between ”facts” and creativity.
A reception for Guillen, Rossman, and Rush will take place from 6:30 - 10:00 on Saturday, February 16.
