It was during their first collaborative project together, that the vision of Elefant was first initiated. Throughout the design process they realised they had a unique working partnership, and a growing passion to create. Both with aspirations of nurturing our own company, and a strong work ethic, a very small and determined Elefant began to grow.

The year following their graduation, both Alexander Turvey and Ariel Hoffstad worked in design studios, but Elefant became their continued obsession. It was the place they would escape to at night, they thrived on the work they were creating and the freedom they had been given. This accelerated their use of visual language and style to something quite unique, and they were able to design within their own process.

They feel that the process by which they work, forms the distinct character of Elefant. Elefantart, as we are more formally known, conceptually likes to challenge design guidelines, whilst continuing to consciously realize the central role of the client and of the brief.

Why the name Elefant?

They feel the name Elefant, is a fundamental a part of what we stand for.
The elephant is one the most positive animal symbols known. There are many lessons we can learn from the elephant:

• Strength
• Wisdom
• Solitude
• Strong sense of loyalty to the family
• Intelligence

The elephant, revered for its strength and power, is also a symbol of luck and loyalty. Often people keep a lucky elephant at the door of their house to protect themselves from bad luck, and to stimulate good luck for all who live there.

The white elephant was chosen by Buddha, as one of his many incarnations. White elephants are rare and their appearance is still today considered a phenomenon of the gods.

Most importantly, the elephant attains old age, and with this it brings wisdom.

With the decision to brand themselves as elefantart, they hope to embody the sprit of the elephant. Encompassing strength, wisdom, solitude, intelligence and loyalty, to both their work, and the client.
