Mammoth is going to be a clothing brand with a demographic that largely consists of Mixed Martial Arts fans. I was hired to work on the logo and it served as a perfect opportunity to do some more hand lettering.
In addition to the lettering in the logo above I’m working on getting better with my hand lettering, this was all done by hand:

It’s a lot of fun to not be restrained by what fonts you have installed and, rather, to rely on your own ability. I’ve got a way to go, but it should prove fun to get better.
As is usual, I encourage you to click on the images and get whisked away to my Flickr page. Larger versions are available and the linework looks better in the non-resized, uncompressed version. Hey, what can I say? I’m vain about my linework!
I know that a decent crowd of individuals reads these posts. I’d like to interact more with you guys. What part of my process do you guys have questions about? What would you like to see more of? Less of?
Thanks for feedback, it’s always appreciated.

A Better Tomorrow is now selling the tee whose sketch I posted previously. In its finished form, it’s a good mix of cartoon and gore. A little more lighthearted than my Medusa design, but more appropriate given that it’s a riff on A Better Tomorrow’s logo. I wanted to create a relationship between the bird and ape that made sense in the context of halloween. I think I succeeded in that. Below is the image ABT created to promote the shirt on their blog.

This video is the first in a two part series showing me pencil, ink, and color a zombie’s hand. By the end of this video you’ll see the piece progress from pencils, to inks, to sketchy value work (in preparation for the spot color added in the next video).

Here’s an image to be used on Subtraction’s Illustrate Me feature. The one I’m showing here is less aggressively cropped than the one showing up over there, but is still cropped nonetheless. I’m pretty happy with it. Instead of doing my usual two or three tone drawing, I kept this one simple in the spirit of the blog it’s being featured at.

In an effort to inspire others and do something for myself instead of a client, I started an Art Fight on my blog, and on LiveJournal. What I mean by the term Art Fight, is that I drew a caricature of myself, stylus adorned and ready to spar. All that I asked was that anyone draw a version of themselves, also ready to fight, and post to the thread on LiveJournal’s Illustrator community. I respond in kind by drawing us fighting. Where it goes from there is limited only to eachother’s imaginations!

Here’s the first result I posted to the thread and my blog. As this is posted, I’ve completed four with more to come. I encourage anyone and everyone to participate! LCS’ers, get ready ta rumble!

I’ve got a piece in an upcoming Rushca tribute show. The theme of the show is drawn from his conceptual piece Will 100 artists Draw A 1950 Ford From Memory. Essentially, the curator went out and found 100 artists to draw a Ford from memory. It didn’t have to be taken literally; I featured the interior in the drawing I came up with. Pretty happy with it, overall!

Hi again, all. I, Ray Frenden, recently completed a digital painting of a sad, defunct, agricultural bot that the folks at inPRNT were kind enough to offer a print of.
I plan on showing up more around these parts, too! The response to the more painterly robot has led me to try more paintings including this self portrait.
