We’re two shows in one. Astudent show and a professional show. Open to all undergraduate and graduate students, recent graduates, professors, instructors, graphic designers, art directors, illustrators, photographers and fine artists in all media.

The Society of Illustrators Annual Competition, ILLUSTRATORS 51, now accepting entry submissions online for the first time! The goal of the annual is to recognize the highest standard in every category of illustration. Works selected will be shown in the Museum of American Illustration. The entire show will be presented in full color in ILLUSTRATORS 51, “America’s Original Annual of Illustration.” Taking submissions until November 7, 2008.

Some of the best illustrators in the country will be exhibiting at the Silpe Gallery this month as the culmination of their work in a one-of-a-kind MFA (Master of Fine Arts) program.
The inaugural MFA in Illustration Thesis Exhibition will take place from July 9–20 in the Silpe Gallery, which is located in the Hartford Art School. There will be an Artists’ Reception at the gallery on Friday, July 20, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public. Silpe Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Ithaca Fine Chocolates aims to support practicing visual artists working in non-functional media. Artworks featured in Art Bars are chosen annually by a panel of artists, art historians, and museum professionals.
The 2007-08 application deadline is Friday, July 27, 2007. Selected artists will be notified in September.
Reproductions of works by each of the selected artists will be included in Art Bars for at least one year beginning in December. Please note that reproductions are printed on cards measuring 1 3/4 x 4" for the small bars and 2 3/4 x 4 1/2" for the large bars. The selected work must be available in a good print-quality digital image (300 dpi or greater). Original works are also featured in an exhibition in December.

The goose is said to be the first bird that contracted avian flu. This is one of a body of work that speaks to this terrifying flu that it is said that will become a pandemic. There is no if here. It is definite. Just a question of when. This is the stuff of my nightmares. The image is developed in Adobe Illustrator with hand drawn textures added in and manipulated in Adobe Photoshop.

Q. Cassetti is pursing an MA in Illustration at Syracuse University with hopes to graduate in 2007. In addition to making pictures for fun and credit, she also runs Luckystone Partners, a graphic design and consulting company in Trumansburg, New York.
