Kelmurphy’s Book Receives nod from Chicago Public Library

Kelly Murphy’s picture book Fiona’s Luck (Charlesbridge) was named as a Chicago Public Library’s Bookmania book to get in 2007.

Give a child the gift of reading! Encourage the child in your life to read books that make them laugh, take them on trips to faraway places, or simply make them wild about books. The Chicago Public Library suggests these children’s books, all published in 2007, as perfect gifts for any occasion, all year round.

Kelmurphy and Robert’s Snow: for Cancer’s Cure

Bidding starts Monday November 19th!

Own a piece of art from your favorite children’s book illustrator while helping to fight cancer. Participate in Robert’s Snow: for Cancer’s Cure, a unique fundraiser for cancer research. Since 2004, this online auction has raised over $200,000 for Dana-Farber, and with your help, we can continue this holiday tradition in 2007.

“Robert’s Snow” is a children’s story about a mouse not allowed in the snow. Children’s book illustrator Grace Lin wrote the book, which was inspired by her husband Robert’s battle with Ewing’s sarcoma. After the book was published, Grace gathered artists from all over the children’s book illustrating community to create special snowflakes to be auctioned off, with the proceeds benefiting sarcoma research at Dana-Farber. These snowflake auctions became known as the event “Robert’s Snow.”

Kelly Murphy joins this charity event for the third time, but all the 2007 snowflakes are now available for viewing online. Each online auction will contain different snowflakes, so be sure to check out all three online galleries to pick your favorite.

Shybird Studio’s Newest Image

Little Chimp members Kelly Murphy and Antoine Revoy have created a new image for an upcoming promotional mailer. In the coming months, the studio will be in full production of several short animations. In the meantime, Murphy is finishing her ninth picture book and Revoy continues his design work in Paris, France.

Seventh Picture Book Release

Kelly Murphy’s seventh picture book entitled Gallop O’ Gallop (Dial Book for Young Readers), written by Sandra Alonzo is released on April 5th, 2007. After painting horses for over one year, Kelly was a bit fed up with the foor legged lugs, but after some time spent apart, they’ve mended their rift and hope you too will embrace the horse dork in you! Earlier this year, Fiona’s Luck (Charlesbridge), written by Teresa Bateman, was also realeased. Check all her books out here!

My Pet Project

I’d love to let everyone know about an upcoming charity to benefit cute, fuzzy animals! The Pet Project is an illustration show and charitable online auction with a unique twist. Each of the 29 illustrators involved have chosen their favorite charity or ‘pet project’ for their illustration’s bidding to benefit. I have donated The Remembering Stone to benefit The Rhode Island SPCA. Illustrators include Grace Lin, Kevin Hawkes, Melissa Sweet, Peter Brown, and Wade Zahares.

The auction opens on October 5th, 2006 and runs through October 15th, 2006. The auction will be hosted on eBay. If you would like to be alerted when the auction opens, enter your email address at The Pet Project Website. Bid away my pretties!

Kelmurphy is honored to be included in the Little Chimp Society, and promises to be behaved, restraining herself from fits of raspberry noises and smoking cigarettes for loose change. Kelly has been a freelance illustrator for the last 7 years, mainly concentrated in the children’s market. She is now viciously preparing for an assault (a slow assault at that) in the world of animtion and character design. She currently resides slightly southwest of Boston.
