Helping develop a retailer’s brand can be a boon to struggling artists
This holiday season, Courtney Wotherspoon can put herself in the category of illustrators that includes Ruben Toledo and Izak. Both are known for and linked with the high-profile retailers they collaborate with (ads, catalogues and identity for Nordstrom and Henri Bendel, respectively). Wotherspoon, a Toronto artist who has done editorial work for Nylon and Travel+Leisure, drew the sketches that appear in the elaborate holiday windows at Holt Renfrew’s flagship in downtown Toronto. “It’s like a secret,” says Wotherspoon of that kind of commerical work, “because you don’t get to sign your name to it.” [NP link..] - Nathalie Atkinson, National Post
